Mickey has also worked with the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage at the Smithsonian Institution. In 2005, Hart paired up with the band Particle to create "The Hydra Project."In addition he played with Planet Drum Porject. In 2006, he joined forces with Bill Kreutzman, Mike Gordan, and Steve Kimock to form the Rhythm Devils. In 2008, He formed the Mickey Hart Band, consisting of Hart, Steve Kimmock, George Porter, Jr., Kyle Hollingsworth, Sikiru Adepoju, Walfredo Reyes, Jr., and Jen Durkin.

 

After Jerry's death, Mickey Hart continued to play with his side band Mickey Harts Mystery Box, releasing a self titled album in 1996. He released a solo "Supralingua"in 1998. Then he played with The Other Ones. In 2000, he released another solo album "Spirit into Sound," and another in 2002 titled "Over the Edge and Back Again." Also, Mickey has published many books about the depth and power of music. In 2000, he became a member on the Board of Directors of the Institute for Music and Nuerologic Function. He is also on the Board of Trustees the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
